Things are changing in our daily lives at an alarming rate. Coronavirus has been declared a pandemic, and much of the country is shutting down. It is easy to feel afraid and panic. However, staying calm and healthy is crucial in these early times as we wait and see how the illness unfolds and affects our nation. Here are some ways to keep your family and home healthy:

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water regularly

Doctors say that thorough handwashing is far more effective than wearing a mask. Many also say that proper handwashing is even more effective against viruses than using commercially-sold hand sanitizers.

Since people are more likely to get infected from surfaces covered with saliva emitted by someone who is infected through a cough or sneeze, the best safety measure is to wash your hands regularly.

From the utensils you use to your mobile phone, keys, steering wheel in your car, everything comes in contact with your hands. It is therefore best to keep them as clean as possible.

If you have no access to water, use hand sanitizers.

  1. Don’t bring bacteria into your home

Don’t wear shoes into your house. This not only brings bacteria into your home, but also can cause a number of other health problems such as allergies.

If you have pets and walk them outside, remember to always wash your pet’s paws when you come home.

One common mistake that many people make is to get home from work and just plonk themselves down on the couch. Some even sit on their bed when they step into the rooms. You’re still wearing clothes that came into contact with public surfaces. Remove your clothes and put them in the laundry (which you’ll wash with detergent and disinfectant later).

  1. Strengthen your immune system

There’s a reason some people’s bodies can handle the virus and some can’t. Often, it comes down to how strong your immune system is. If you do get infected, your immune system may be your last hope. If it’s strong, your chances of getting through the illness easily will be much higher.

Consume vitamin C, elderberry, fish oil, curcumin, garlic, zinc, selenium and vitamin D supplements and hydrate. Doing these things will help to boost your immunity and give your body a chance to kick the virus to the curb.

In addition, one chiropractic adjustment can boost your immune system up to 30%. Call your chiropractor and make an appointment today.

  1. Spend quality time with your family

Social distancing means we are spending a lot more time at home. Going for walks, playing with board games, watching movies, reading novels as a family, making crafts, and story-telling with flashlights in the dark are all fun activities to do together.

  1. Learn new things or tackle projects

For some of us, due to cancellations and postponements, we have more time on our hands than we have in awhile. Do you want to learn Spanish? Write a novel? Clean out your closets? Now is the time!
